Temporary Senior Accountant - Financial Reporting Oakland Nonprofit | Fully On-Site | 3-6 Month Assignment

A well-established nonprofit organization in Oakland seeks an experienced Senior Accountant for a critical temporary assignment focused on financial statement preparation and balance sheet reconciliations. This fully on-site position requires someone who can hit the ground running and work independently to strengthen financial reporting processes.

The Assignment This is a 3-6 month temporary position with the possibility of extension. You'll be tasked with bringing financial statements current and ensuring all balance sheet accounts are properly reconciled and documented. This role requires daily on-site presence in Oakland to collaborate with the finance team and access necessary documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements in accordance with GAAP
• Perform complex balance sheet reconciliations and resolve variances
• Review and reconcile general ledger accounts, identifying and correcting discrepancies
• Document reconciliation procedures and create supporting schedules
• Assist with audit preparation and provide supporting documentation
• Analyze financial data and investigate unusual transactions or balances
• Create and maintain reconciliation templates for ongoing use
• Support month-end and year-end close processes
• Collaborate with program staff to ensure proper expense allocation and fund accounting

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent experience
• 3+ years of nonprofit accounting experience
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles
• Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables and complex formulas
• Experience with fund accounting and multiple revenue streams
• Proven ability to prepare accurate financial statements independently
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work on-site 5 days per week in Oakland

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with government grants and restricted funding
• Familiarity with nonprofit accounting software (QuickBooks Nonprofit, NetSuite, or similar)
• Previous experience in temporary or project-based accounting roles

• Duration : 3-6 months (potential for extension)
• Schedule : Monday-Friday, full-time, fully on-site
• Location : Oakland, CA (accessible by BART)
• Start Date : Immediate

$35-$45/hour salary
