Job Description

Summary

This position is responsible for the technological implementation and support of electronic library services, with chief responsibility for the LCCC Library Services Platforms as well as research and recommendations for emerging technologies, to enhance service to support student learning.  This position requires a high level of competence and adaptively to technological change, industry knowledge of products and services, and the ability to coordinate products and contract terms.  This position will also provide students and faculty with reference and information literacy services. Some evening and weekend hours and/or travel to other sites required.  This position reports to the Dean of The Center for Workforce Development, Arts, Education, and Technology.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage configuration and operation of the LCCC Rothrock Library Services Platforms.
  • Manage and integrate electronic library web services, including OCLC (WMS, ILL, Analytics).
  • Ensure smooth daily operation of library technologies and equipment.
  • Serve as primary technical liaison with technology vendors.
  • Research, maintain a working knowledge, and evaluate the application and use of emerging technologies and services to enhance student learning, discovery and research.
  • Recommend new technologies, digital projects and services as part of a comprehensive library technology plan.
  • Liaison and work closely with the college’s Information Technology Department to perform periodic system maintenance and updates.
  • Assist in the technology training for library employees.
  • Assist students and faculty with library electronic service access and troubleshooting.
  • Collect and analyze data pertaining to the operational effectiveness of the library’s electronic systems and e-services.
  • Provide reports as requested to inform budgetary and purchasing decisions.
  • Responsible for developing, managing, and administering the College archives collection.
  • Manages the acquisition, cataloging, and preservation of College honors projects.

 

General Duties

  • Assist in the operation of the College’s library.
  • Provide information literacy instruction, general and specialized reference assistance for students and faculty.
  • Assist with collection development.
  • Work closely with faculty and students to achieve maximum utilization of the Library’s resources.
  • Assist in the assessment and further development of library services and programs.
  • Engage in professional development activities to maintain currency.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings.
  • Serve on college committees and advisory boards, as assigned.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Required:

Education

  • ALA (American Library Association) MLS from an accredited institution, or equivalent masters.

Certifications

  • Act 153 Clearances required – (Act 34 PA Criminal Background, Act 151 PA Child Abuse History, Act 114 FBI Clearance Fingerprinting).

 

Work Experience

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in the digital services area of an academic library.
  • Experience working with data bases and SQL.
  • Working knowledge of programming/scripting languages such as HTML, Java or like programs/languages.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and implement projects; troubleshoot and problem-solve.
  • Strong commitment to the library as a learning organization and possess excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong commitment to professional development to maintaining knowledge of emerging technologies.
  • Familiarity with the mission of a comprehensive community college.
  • Must possess a high level of the following work skills and behaviors: Teamwork/Cooperation, initiative, customer service, and commitment to continuous professional growth in skills and knowledge.

 

Preferred:

  • At least one (1) year of professional experience managing lLS/LSP systems.
  • Knowledge of Library related systems, such as full-text finders, proxy servers, and similar systems.
  • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems, preferably Canvas.
  • Knowledge of Content Management systems
  • Knowledge of standard archival policies and procedures for use, access, and preservation.
  • Knowledge of post-production software applications such as Apple Final Cut Pro, Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia, or Canvas Studio.
  • Broad knowledge of academic library trends in information services and use of technologies.
  • Bi-lingual, Spanish

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.  The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
