Job Description

Nova Science Publishers is a Long Island based academic publishing house looking for a creative and hard-working graphic designer to join our team in a part-time capacity. Candidates should be able to begin work immediately upon approval.

Please note that this is a fully in-person role, and that only candidates within commuting distance of Hauppauge, New York will be considered.

Key Responsibilities:

• Designing production-ready book covers for hardcover, softcover, and electronic publications
• Designing various digital and print-based marketing materials aimed at consumers and clients
• Creating other documents and materials as needed
• Corresponding with authors and editors via email
• Working closely with other departments to ensure that production moves forward on schedule

Skill requirements:

• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
• Basic knowledge of technical requirements for print and digital media (color modes, PPI, etc.)
• Understanding of both display and text typography
• Understanding of layout and composition
• Ability to manage multiple short-form projects in a fast-paced environment
• Basic understanding of commercial font and image licensing
• Strong written and verbal business communication skills
• Strong creative thinking skills
• Familiarity with Windows 10 and/or 11
• Basic knowledge of hardcover and softcover bookbinding is a plus
• Past professional experience is a plus

Experience requirements:

• 2-4 year degree in Graphic Design or a related field
• Must provide a strong portfolio of past design work
• This is a part-time entry-level position with potential career development based on performance

Pay: From $19/hr
