The purpose of this position is to operate patient transport vehicles, including emergency vehicles, patient transport vans/buses and other types transport vehicles, capable of carrying up to 8 or more passengers, to and from VA Medical Center facilities, private healthcare facilities, and other private sector areas like patient homes, railway, bus stations and airports. Incumbent drives predetermined and/or scheduled routes.

The MVO drives gasoline or diesel-powered vehicle weights up to and over 26,000 pounds. The vehicle types include passenger cars, vans, station wagons, cargo van, stake trucks, bus, various capacities up to a 40-passenger bus (similar to a school bus). The vehicles are used for transporting patients and personnel on official business and for delivery of supplies and materials on and off the station. Vehicles are driven interstate, over roads and streets, through all kinds of traffic and weather conditions.
